Dr. Charles Reed is a board-certified pulmonologist and critical care physician with 20 years of experience in the management of complex respiratory disease and acute respiratory failure. He earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Florida — a major referral centre for complex lung disease in the South-Eastern United States.Dr. Reed's clinical practice spans a wide range of chronic and acute pulmonary conditions, including COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases, and pulmonary hypertension. He is a recognised expert in the management of progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease and has particular expertise in the use of antifibrotic therapy for IPF and other fibrotic ILDs.His critical care practice involves the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome, mechanical ventilation weaning, non-invasive ventilation, high-flow nasal oxygen therapy, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation candidacy assessment. He co-chairs the ICU quality improvement committee and has led initiatives reducing ventilator-associated pneumonia rates and implementing lung-protective ventilation protocols across the intensive care service.Dr. Reed has published on the management of refractory hypoxaemia in ARDS and on clinical outcomes with antifibrotic therapy in progressive fibrosing ILD, appearing in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the European Respiratory Journal. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and serves on its ILD guidelines committee.
