Dr. Anthony Carter is a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist with 18 years of experience in advanced endoscopy and liver disease management. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, followed by an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Northwestern University, where he trained in ERCP, EUS, and complex therapeutic endoscopy.Dr. Carter's advanced endoscopy practice encompasses diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP for common bile duct stones, biliary strictures, and pancreatic duct pathology, endoscopic ultrasound for pancreatic and gastric lesion evaluation including EUS-guided fine needle aspiration and biopsy, and per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia. He has particular expertise in the endoscopic management of early gastrointestinal neoplasia, including endoscopic submucosal dissection for early oesophageal, gastric, and colonic cancers.His hepatology practice manages the full spectrum of chronic liver disease, including viral hepatitis (directing a highly successful hepatitis C eradication programme), alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and steatohepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, and primary biliary cholangitis. He performs diagnostic liver biopsies and conducts transient elastography and MR elastography for non-invasive fibrosis staging in patients with chronic liver disease.Dr. Carter has published on outcomes following ERCP in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis and on endoscopic treatment of early gastric cancer, appearing in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Hepatology. He serves on the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy's quality and safety committee and leads an endoscopy quality improvement programme within his department.
