About This Service

SilverOak Health's Ophthalmology and Eye Care service provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for the full range of ophthalmic conditions, from routine refractive error correction and cataract surgery to complex vitreoretinal procedures and glaucoma management. Our consultant ophthalmologists are subspecialty trained, bringing expert knowledge of specific disease areas alongside the broad clinical competence required to manage the diverse ophthalmic presentations encountered in a busy hospital setting. Cataract surgery is one of our highest-volume procedures, performed as a day case under topical or local anaesthesia using phacoemulsification with premium intraocular lens implantation. Patients with astigmatism or who wish to reduce spectacle dependence can be offered toric or multifocal intraocular lenses. Our retinal service manages age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, retinal vein occlusion, and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, with intravitreal anti-VEGF injection clinics operating multiple times weekly to ensure treatment intervals are not missed. Glaucoma services provide comprehensive pressure assessment, optic nerve imaging with OCT, and visual field testing, with a structured monitoring and treatment programme that includes medical, laser, and surgical options tailored to each patient's disease severity and risk profile. Our oculoplastic surgery service addresses disorders of the eyelids, lacrimal system, and orbit including ptosis, entropion, ectropion, lacrimal duct obstruction, and orbital tumours. A dedicated low vision service helps patients with irreversible visual impairment maximise their residual functional vision through optical aids, lighting assessment, and adaptive technology.
