Pulmonology & Respiratory Care
SilverOak Health's Pulmonology and Respiratory Care department provides expert diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions affecting the lungs and respiratory tract. Our consultant pulmonologists specialise in the full spectrum of respiratory medicine including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, sleep-disordered breathing, pleural disease, and respiratory infections including tuberculosis. Diagnostic capabilities include spirometry and full pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage and transbronchial biopsy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for mediastinal lymph node sampling and lung cancer staging, CT-guided lung biopsy, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Our high-resolution CT chest reporting is performed by dedicated thoracic radiologists in close collaboration with the pulmonology team, enabling accurate characterisation of complex interstitial and nodular lung pathology. Our COPD programme integrates pulmonary rehabilitation — a structured exercise and education programme that improves exercise capacity, reduces breathlessness, and lowers hospitalisation rates — with optimised inhaler therapy, smoking cessation support, and early supported discharge services. The lung cancer rapid access pathway ensures that patients with suspicious CT findings are assessed, biopsied, and discussed at the lung cancer multidisciplinary team meeting within two weeks, maximising the proportion of patients diagnosed at resectable early-stage disease. We are committed to improving respiratory health in our community through both individual clinical care and population-level preventive programmes.
